22 May International Day for Biodiversity
22 May is International Day for Biological Diversity. Under the theme ‘Acting Locally for Global Impact’, this year we are focusing on the impact of local communities on our biodiversity.
The Water & Land project investigated how local heritage communities contribute to biodiversity. Biodiversity on Earth varies depending on regions, ecosystems and many other factors. That is why it is important to also make a strong commitment to biodiversity at a local level. Many local heritage communities have a significant influence on their immediate surroundings and thus help to contribute to a climate-resilient future. Just look at the watermill landscapes, grassland irrigation, hedge management, beekeeping and more.
