16–24 May: Biodiversity Week

Biodiversity Week runs from 16 to 24 May. This week, go exploring in your garden, the woods or a nature reserve and discover the rich biodiversity that nature has to offer. Take part in the 2026 National Biodiversity Challenge via the ObsIdentify app and help us map our nature reserves. Be sure to visit the Biodiversity Week website for more information.

Water & Land has also carried out research into biodiversity. For example, the Hedge laying heritage community is helping to create habitats for various animals, whilst working with natural materials. Under the guidance of CAG, the heritage community has launched an initiative to have their heritage listed on the Flanders Inventory of Intangible Heritage.

Beekeepers help to promote biodiversity by taking good care of our bees. Bees pollinate various plants as they flit from flower to flower. Our natural world would be nothing without bees. More information on this will follow later during the Week of the Bee.
