Composting: forgotten knowledge for the future

Composting: forgotten knowledge for the future

We dive into the history of composting and ask ourselves: what exactly is compost? Who uses it, why, and how do you do it well – on both a small and large scale? Together with Kristof Van Stichelen of Vlaco, Joost Eens of the Oogstappel organic farm, and Koen Willekens of ILVO, we search for answers.

Composting is a practice that has been gaining more attention and application in recent decades. At people's homes, in their gardens or vegetable patches. At large composting facilities, which have delivered high-quality compost since the separate collection of our organic waste. And at farms, who are (again) starting to use farm composting. Whether people work on a large or small scale, composting requires attentive senses and knowledge of compostable materials to achieve a good end-product. And with a good end-product, you can do a great deal for our soil health. And we all benefit from that.
